Here is a NYS DOH advisory on vaping related lung problems. There have been hundreds of people treated across the US for sometimes fatal lung inflammations that seem to be caused by something in their vapes.
We think that this highlights the value of knowing what you are vaping. We try to point our recommendations towards vape manufacturers who publish the testing on their vape products so consumers can know what is in them.
Some things that we think are useful to make vaping as safe as possible:
- first, know what is in the vape liquid you are using. If you can't find a testing result on the manufacturer's website, think twice.
- avoid vapes that contain glycerol, polyethylene glycol, or propylene glycol.
- vapes that contain pure distillate from the plant or medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil seem to be the safest choices so far
- If you do start getting a cough or trouble breathing, stop vaping immediately and see your health care provider.
At the end, you have to balance risks and benefits of any medicine, but you can try to minimize risks with a few simple steps.
